A Brief History
Members of the Quadrille Society Inc. have staged an annual charity Ball since
1961. Building on this rich, long heritage and tradition, dedicated to creating
a bridge of mutual cultural appreciation, the group organized and incorporated
a not for profit 501(c)(3) charity in the spring of 2006. The 2008 Bal d’Europe will
benefit the UnCommon Leadership Foundation .
This list of the Guests of Honor who have participated over the years is long
and distinguished. Following in this tradition we continue to pursue honorees
who have made their mark in the world and whose achievements deserve recognition.
This year, we honor General Martin R. Steele founder of the UnCommon Leadership
Foundation and, former CEO and President of the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space
Museum.
Over the years, members and officers of the Quadrille Society, Inc. have raised
millions of dollars, which was contributed to international education programs
and universities. For the Bal d’Europe a concerted effort has been made
to increase the scope of international participants and open
this unique event to a greater cross-section of the world community.
At the 2008 Bal d’Europe a special performance of a new Quadrille, a charming
18th century squaredance, popular at similar balls in Europe
for over two centuries will be presented for the very first time. It is performed
by young people from a wide international spectrum who are invited or recommended
to participate each year. One of the highlights of the Ball will be the performance
of this new Quadrille.
Our form of “cultural diplomacy” has been very successful on the international level. However, the need is increasingly great to underwrite the scholarships and international educational programs that foster greater understanding, raise our cultural awareness and promote better communication, tolerance and good will in the world. We accomplish all this through the efforts of our volunteer committees and through the good will and generosity of our friends.
