We are delighted to announce that on March 1, 2008, The Quadrille Society will hold the Bal d’Europe at the Pierre Hotel in New York.

We invite your support for the education programs that result from the funds raised through our beautiful ball. Our form of “cultural diplomacy” is to promote understanding, communication and good will in the world through education. We are proud that the entire net proceeds of the Bal d’Europe sponsored by The Quadrille Society Inc., go directly to educational programs. This Ball is and has always been organized and administered by our all volunteer committee.

Proceeds of the 2008 Bal d’Europe will benefit the Uncommon Leadership Scholarship Foundation, which was established to provide higher education or graduate level education for deserving non-retiring Marines leaving the United States Marine Corps after their active service.

On the 16th of March 1945, Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, United States Navy, referring to Marines who had fought on Iwo Jima, said, “… uncommon valor was a common virtue.” Marines who endured that dark ordeal would agree and would tell you that uncommon leadership was also a common virtue displayed by the Commanding General down to the most junior Marine in the battle.

Although the world has changed dramatically, Marine valor in battle remains undisputed and uncommon leadership, especially at the small unit level, continues to define each individual’s experience of serving in the Corps.

Each year approximately thirty thousand Marines leave active service and return to their families and communities across this country. Almost nineteen thousand of these Marines are finishing their “first term” with honorable discharges.

Lieutenant General Steele, and his partners who developed the Uncommon Leadership Scholarship Foundation, have had the opportunity to meet many of these talented men and women through it’s association with the Marine Civilian Development Program – a transition program, generously funded by the Lerner Foundation, designed to show Marines, leaving the Marine Corps, the skills, ethics and character they need to retain from their honorable service and teach the skills they need to learn to be successful in corporate America. In addition, The Uncommon Leadership Foundation partners with the Injured Marine Fund, Marines who are still on active duty, with the Fisher House Foundation (former units), and with the wounded Marines at Bethesda Naval Hospital – through which they have met hundreds of these extraordinary heroes.

Their need is clear – mere moments spent with them would inspire anyone to act on their behalf. The moral courage, talent, drive, character and the spirit of these young men and women are what stand out and call upon us to give them the chance they need to transition back into civilian life and live productive and normal lives. The potential benefit to businesses, the arts, public service, science and education, when they are infused with these remarkable performers, is obvious. They need the education and career assistance offered by Uncommon Leadership Foundation for scholarships, training, and career placements. Please be generous – these brave young men and women have given so much, it’s our turn to give back.

As a sponsor and/or advertiser, your kind support will be appropriately acknowledged as indicated in the brochure that accompanies this letter. The specific details are explained for every level of participation. Your response by February 22, 2008 will ensure proper acknowledgement of your generosity.

If you have any questions or need further information, please call 914-966-3180 x120. Meanwhile, we hope that you will show support for these education programs. We do look forward to seeing you at the grandly elegant Bal d’Europe on March 1, 2008 at the Pierre Hotel
